Iowa’s archery deer hunting season will begin Oct. 1 and state officials say more than 57,000 bow hunters are expected to participate.
State deer biologist with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Tom Litchfield, says the state’s deer herd is in good shape, but hunters can expect to see fewer deer in most areas this year.
He says the antlerless quotas remain unchanged from last year and hunters will have to refrain from shooting as many does as they have in past years, especially in eastern Iowa.
Iowa’s bow season runs through Dec. 2 and then again from Dec. 19 through Jan. 10, 2012.
