One of two men involved in last week's armed robbery at Cedar Rapids liquor store has been arrested, police said.
Aaron L. Jackson Jr., 21, is charged with first-degree robbery in connection with the Sept. 15 hold-up at Point Liquor and Tobacco, 4107 Center Point Rd. NE. According to a criminal complaint, Jackson pointed a gun at the clerk Fawad Nawaz and threatened to kill him.
Two masked men entered the store shortly after midnight and forced Nawaz to get on the floor. Owner Javed Khan, 37, said the suspects took about $2,800 in cash from the register, along with several bottles of liquor and cigarettes.
Court documents indicate law enforcement positively identified Jackson from the surveillance video that captured the incident.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said Jackson was arrested around 10:45 p.m. Monday at Hy-Vee, 1843 Johnson Ave. SW. He admitted to being at the store earlier that evening, according to the complaint.
The second subject, described as a slender black male, around 6 feet tall, has not been arrested, police said.
Jackson was previously arrested July 23 and charged with intimidation with a dangerous weapon. That day, police said he fired rounds from a handgun in the direction of a group of people, including some children, in the 1500 block of Fourth Ave. SE. No one was hurt.
His lengthy criminal record includes charges for domestic abuse, driving while barred and theft, according to online court records.
Jackson was being held at the Linn County Jail on $30,000 cash bond. He turns 22 years old on Thursday.
