Chris Kokalis, listed as general manager and co-owner, announced tonight that the Cedar Rapids Titans will begin play in the Indoor Football League in March 2012 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

City officials were unavailable to confirm the announcement, planned for 12:45 p.m. Tuesday.

"The Cedar Rapids Titans will open their inaugural season at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in March before moving into the newly renovated US Cellular Center for the 2013 season," the release reads. "The team is in the process of finalizing its lease with the city."

The Indoor Football League is a 22-team league based in Richmond, Va. Cedar Rapids will be a member of the League’s Great Lakes Division, which boasts teams in Green Bay, Chicago and Bloomington, Ill.

"We believe that Cedar Rapids is a fantastic market to bring a team into," Kokalis said in the release. "It has been a pleasure working with the City, VenuWorks, and other community members in anticipation of this announcement.  We hope to promote economic development and be a part of the growth of the community by being active and giving back to the fans.”
