UPDATE: A Cedar Rapids man remained hospitalized Monday after his motorcycle collided with a sport-utility vehicle and caught fire Saturday in Cedar Rapids.
Brian Smith, 30, of Cedar Rapids, suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash at Center Point Road and O Avenue NE, police said. Information about his official medical condition was not immediately available.
Investigators determined the SUV, driven by 46-year-old Lori Dramstad, of Cedar Rapids, was southbound in the right lane of Center Point Road NE when she attempted to turn left onto O Avenue NE, according to Sgt. Cristy Hamblin. Smith, who was also southbound on the one-way street, was in the left lane and hit the back quarter panel of Dramstad's SUV, police said.
Smith was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids and later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, police said.
An investigation is continuing.
