Tom is a senior manager for local TV sales at KCRG-TV9:
I was at home when the first plane hit the tower, and GMA was covering the breaking news. My first thought was that the pilot had suffered a heart attack and the plane was simply flying out of control. I walked into my office at KCRG as the second tower was struck and thought, selfishly, that we wouldn’t run commercials for several days and my September revenue budget would most certainly be missed.
Within a couple of minutes I realized that missing our department’s budget was the least of my concerns. Our country was under attack, and where were my wife and kids and brother and sister and mother and father?
During the days that followed I came to understand how important our media company is to the people we serve. People couldn’t leave their television sets and couldn’t wait to get the morning paper.
