Coralville man accused of identity theft

IOWA CITY - A 25-year-old Coralville man accused of using other individuals' information to apply for credit and loans online between June and October 2010 was being held at the Johnson County Jail on Sunday morning on charges of identity theft and second-degree theft.
The allegations in the complaint against Charles A. Jones of 710 1/2 Fifth Avenue Pl. include:
- Using another person's information to apply for credit with Capital One beginning June 21, 2010, and using another person's MidwestOne Bank account to pay the monthly statement for the credit account. The total amount of loss was $2,382.72.
- Using another person's information to apply for credit with Capital One on July 26, 2010. The total amount of credit transferred to Jones' bank account was $2,468.21.
- Using another person's information to apply for credit with SSM Group LLC on July 27, 2010. The credit company deposited $250 into Jones' bank account.
- Using another person's information to apply for and receive a $400 loan with Loanpoint USA on July 29, 2010.
Second-degree theft is a Class D felony. Jones also faces three charges of identity theft, two of which are aggravated misdemeanors and one of which is a Class D felony.
He was being held on an $8,000 bond.
