I just got off the phone with Mindy Williamson, the director of communications for the Iowa Corn Growers Association and Iowa Corn Promotion Board.

I wanted to know if public opinion was swaying the Iowa Corn Growers to consider altering and/or changing the Cy-Hawk Trophy it unveiled last Friday at the Iowa State Fair.

She said a press release was forthcoming later today, but did say there will be a press conference Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Johnston to discuss “what’s going on with the trophy.”

“We digested all the negative and positive feedback,” Williamson said. “It was overwhelming. That’s why we’re calling the press conference.”

UPDATE: The press release says “Iowa Corn representatives along with University of Iowa and Iowa State University officials will be hosting a press conference with regard to the recently unveiled Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk trophy.”

  1. It looks as if they have already started another one, from what I have heard… I think it is a lovely statue… as I mentioned…. it needs a fountain around it with spot lights beaming up …. in front of the State Fair or 4H barn… not a football game.. I have to feel they did not expect such negative reviews… I guess the state of Iowa has spoken.

    • You seem to think this Hummel figurine is all but gone due to the overwhelmingly, and deservedly, negative opinions on it Jon. While I hope you are correct I can easily picture the empty suits in Des Moines holding this news conference to outline the fiduciary gains and remind us that they know best, followed by further explanation that us rubes just don’t get it! Man, I hope you’re correct!!!
