Bureaucracies have no common sense, only inviolate rules. That’s how a little kid gets their lemonade stand shut down and someone who does the right thing and helps others gets fired.
Was it Emerson who wrote, “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen, philosophers and divines.”
To some, rules must be consistently enforced, even if it defies common sense.
Would this fall under “no good deed ever goes unpunished”? I wonder if his boss should keep a very close eye on his spedometer, use his signals at every turn….
