A Coralville man is facing a charge of identity theft after authorities say he allegedly used someone else's Social Security number.
Authorities came into contact with Luis M. Nicolas, of 930 Boston Way No. 3, for an unrelated charge of driving while barred at approximately 8 a.m. on June 21 at the Panchero's Mexican Grill restaurant in North Liberty.
During an investigation, North Liberty police say they learned that Nicholas had used a Social Security number to obtain employment and also obtain registration for a vehicle without any right to do so.
North Liberty police verified with the Social Security office that the number allegedly used by Nicolas does not belong to him. Nicolas was employed at the Panchero's location from March 21 to July 9.
Nicolas was being held at the Johnson County Jail and is scheduled to appear before a judge on Friday morning.
Driving while barred is an aggravated misdemeanor and identity theft is a class D felony.
