UPDATE: Severe summer weather in Eastern Iowa on Wednesday produced heavy rains and wind, as well as at least one confirmed tornado, but no injuries were reported.
With high dew points and low temperatures, Wednesday didn't meet the muggy climate typical of Iowa tornado weather. But tornadoes and severe winds did some damage in parts of Buchanan, Fayette and Jones counties.
A tornado hit near Stanley, damaging a house and some storage equipment and taking the roof off a hog building on the same property.
Officials in Buchanan County said a tornado touched down between 4 and 4:20 p.m. southwest of West Union and moved northeast, missing the town, but dropping a tree on a rural home. The tornado also ripped the roof off a chicken coop northwest of West Union.
Volunteer firefighters said there was some property damage outside Martelle, and a barn just north of the city was leveled by a funnel cloud. A Brittany spaniel inside the barn escaped with no injuries.
Tornado warnings were also issued Wednesday afternoon for Winneshiek, Buchanan, Clayton, Fayette and Allamakee counties.
