The owners of Rocky Creek Jewelry & Gifts have announced plans to close the store they have operated at Old Capitol Mall for seven years.

Husband and wife owners Greg Mitchell and Bani Kinnison opened the store in 2004 as Gypsy Magic and changed the name in December 2010 to Rock Creeky Jewelry & Gifts. The name change was intended to better portray the merchandise mix offered.

The "numbers weren't there" to continue to the business, Kinnison said in a statement released Thursday, July 7. They said the business had declined in step with the local and national recessions.

Kinnison and Mitchell said they had enjoyed operating the store and tried their best.

The store will remain open during a liquidation sale expected to continue for a few weeks. It will include tapestries, shawls, sterling silver necklaces, rings and earrings, dresses, skirts, t-shirts, toys, puzzles, polished stones, greeting cards, candles, journals, pens, stuffed animals, coffee mugs, purses and wind-chimes.
