CEDAR RAPIDS - A big sale on items from the former Crowne Plaza Hotel kicks off Thursday at 10 a.m.
Liquidators say furniture items and even the carpet will be half-off retail price. Beds, lamps, tables, mirrors and pictures are also up for sale. The only things not up for grabs are the toilets and vanity sinks, but everything else must go before hotel renovations begin.
There are 15 floors, with 276 rooms full of items for sale in the former Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The city of Cedar Rapids officially got into the hotel business when it closed on the sale of the downtown Five Seasons Hotel for a purchase price of $3.2 million.
Don Hayes, President of National Content Liquidation, says this sale is not like an auction. “When you come to this sale, everything will have a price tag on it,” Hayes said. “You can buy one, or you can buy 100.”
The hotel, which opened in 1979, shut its door on Feb. 11, and will remain closed until late 2012 while it is undergoes renovation, the cost of which could reach $25 million, the city has said.
The sale will be held seven days a week, for 30 days, or until everything is gone. Sale hours are from 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
According to National Content Liquidators website, cash, Visa, and Mastercard are accepted at the event.
