Shaun Prater pumps up the crowd during Iowa's 37-6 win over Michigan State last year (Brian Ray/SourceMedia Group)
Shaun Prater was among several Iowa football players made available to the media Tuesday. Here’s a video of him talking about his homestate team and homestate team’s fans.
Mike PLEASE!!!! Stop with this Nebraska stuff. They are NOT that important. Iowa State beat them as recently as two years ago and went into overtime last year. YOU are trying to make NEWS instead of reporting news. Nebraska isn’t even a mere shadow of theirselves in the 70′s and 80′s. Their Athletic director while coaching PROMISED that when he kicked Lawrence Phillips off the team for beating his girlfriend up numerous times and throwing her down a stairs like a bag of garbage that he wouldn’t be beck. YET, he brought him back in time for the BOWL GAME so he would increase his chances of winning. IF you cannot take someone’s word as a man what else is there?
Please, find someone else to promote as Nebraska has YET to prove its worth in the Big 10. The Big 10 owns Nebraska nothing currently and I as a follower of College athletics owe them even less as long as Mr. Osborne in their Athletic director. I personally don’t care about him, but I did care for that girl Lawrence Phillips was using for a punching bag and when Osborne went back on his word he sanctioned his players behavior and told the world that winning at football was more important than being a good citizen, than being a good person, than being a good leader by leading by example, by obeying laws like restraining orders and such. YOU are indirectly promoting them by every other breath that comes out of your mouth. While Nebraska bailing out of a conference they couldn’t dominate and coming to the Big 10 is newsworthy, it is OLD news. Find something fresh, perhaps a article that shows what REAL College STUDENT ATHLETES are supposed to behave like. Otherwise, explain your fetish for Nebraska!
1) I’m pretty sure Mr. Hlas is not forcing you to read any articles or watch videos. Who really wins? No kidding? Nebraska still has to prove their worth in the Big 10? I wasn’t aware they had already played a B10 season. 2) Proofread.
Luke, that would be a “pat” response for sure. No one forces any of us to read their stuff including you. But there is a difference between reading his articles and being force fed a continuous barrage of man love about Nebraska. Mike is savvy enough to know that he needs to allow us a chance to read many articles about many subjects in sports besides a serving of Cornhusker patee’ every time we access the Gazette.
If you’re trying to win your point with confusion, well done. You said no one forces you to read, but you’re force fed stories..? What? I look forward to the blogs and mini-stories that aren’t your run-of-the-mill stories printed in the paper, like the stories Mike listed in his reply. Unfortunately, whether you like it or not, Nebraska news won’t be dying down anytime in the near future. Not only because of conference-ties, but since they’re right next door. My only issue is to be mindful of not only other readers, but the writers.
John, while I think your original reply kind of hopped off the tracks (Lawrence Phillips was a lot of athlete arrests ago – on many teams, including Iowa’s), you’re right. I have served up a lot of Nebraska stuff. And there will probably be more, though I’ll try to ration it out. Nebraska entering the Big Ten only happens once, and it’s something different.
I had a lot of Ohio State stuff the last month or so, too, far more than the norm.
But I also had new content on former Iowa player Rafael Eubanks (hoping to become a physician’s assistant while working at a clinic that administers kidney dialysis) and current QB James Vandenberg, noting how he was on a path to graduate Iowa in 3.5 years.
Fear not, the Big Ten media days are in a month, and there will be plenty of fresh material to come.
Mike, I think it was very kind of you to act like a gentleman towards John. I am not sure what his malfunction is. But between you and Mr.Morehouse, i believe you have covered all the latest ( which up until this week = a number close to zero) Hawkeye football news. I enjoy reading ESPN Blogs, and they link to you guys almost everyday. Having a tizzy about you writing about Nebraska has to be one of the silliest things I have read by any of my Hawkeye brothers. A BRAND NEW TEAM in the B1G! yeah why would you waste your time ( during the heart of the off Season) writing about that. Sheeesh some people. Keep up the good work.
