Cedar Rapids bank robbery suspect arrested in Missouri

UPDATE: Police announced Wednesday that the man who robbed a downtown Cedar Rapids bank three weeks ago has been arrested in Missouri.
Robert Rutan, 67, was arrested around 7 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Louis suburb of Overland, Mo., police said. He will be extradited to Cedar Rapids on charges of second-degree robbery for the June 3 hold-up at Hills Bank and Trust, 240 Third Ave. SE.
Police said a man in his 60s entered the bank around 10:10 a.m. and passed a note to a teller demanding money. No weapon was displayed and no one was hurt.
The man left with an undisclosed of money through the atrium of the Armstrong Centre, and was caught on surveillance cameras going into a skywalk. Cedar Rapids police and the FBI identified Rutan as the suspect and discovered that he had relocated to Missouri.
Overland, Mo. police arrested Rutan around 7 p.m. Tuesday. He was also charged with a violation of federal probation. If convicted for the robbery, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
