Schedule-wise, Iowa’s men’s basketball program ended up about as good as it gets next season in Big Ten play.

In single-play action, the Hawkeyes will play host to Ohio State and Michigan and travel to Michigan State and Illinois next season. All four were in the NCAA Tournament last year and Ohio State was the top-ranked team for most of the season.

Iowa finished 1-8 against those teams last year, including the Big Ten Tournament loss to Michigan State.

Iowa will play Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Indiana, Purdue and Penn State twice next season. Considering the Hawkeyes’ non-conference schedule, Iowa has every chance to flip its 11-20 record from a year ago.

Here’s the non-conference link:

  1. Iowa’s basketball schedule is a joke. They better go 24-7 otherwise they’re not going anywhere come March because their SOS and RPI sucks already.

  2. McCaffery is being given every chance to succeed in the next two years…favorable schedule, lots of B1G stars gone due to graduation, strong support from the athletic department. Barring no major injuries, there should be no excuses for not reaching the NCAA’s by 2013.

  3. Just remember that Penn State finished 19-15 last year, was 9-9 in the Big Ten, lost to Maine in non-con play and got in. If Iowa gets to 20 wins and splits its Big Ten games, in a 68-team NCAA field, the Hawkeyes have a good chance of getting in the tournament.
