MIDDLE AMANA –The man accused of making a terrorism threat against the Amana Refrigeration Appliance factory pleaded that he was “only joking” to an Iowa County Judge Wedenesday morning.
Boubker Lamkadmi is being held on $20,000 cash bond at the Iowa County Jail in Marengo. During his initial appearance Wednesday morning Lamkadmi pleaded with the judge on multiple occasions. Lamkadmi had no attorney present during the court proceeding. Despite being warned by the judge that anything he said could be used against him at a later date, Lamkadmi continued to talk about what he claimed happened.
When the judge asked him about employment status Lamkadmi told her he had “lost his job last night.”
According to police Lamkadmi told employees at the Amana plant that he was going to “blow up Amana” because his friend and brother Osama Bin Laden was killed. According to the judge Lamkadmi also made gestures to mock holding a rocket launcher or bazooka.
Lamkadmi has been formally charged with making a “Threat of Terrorism,” which is a class D felony.
Following his appearance Lamkadmi was assisted by two Iowa County Sheriff's Deputies from the courthouse back to the jail. During the 30-yard walk he continued to try and explain his story.
“I was just joking and they didn't take it for a joke,” he said. “Now I lost my job and I don't know what's going to happen to me.”
