Vulgar t-shirts could be next Iowa City target

It looks like the Iowa City City Council will not altogether ban food and apparel vendors from the Kinnick Stadium neighborhood on gameday, but at a council work session on Monday night, city officials brought up the obscene t-shirts popular among some Hawkeye football fans.
The shirts - which say "Iowa F***in' CITY" - are usually sold out of cardboard boxes by mobile vendors rather than at stands on Melrose Avenue, where most other gameday goods are sold. The shirt salesmen often yell obscenities at passersby to entice customers.
“We need to talk about that too,” said Doug Boothroy, a city regulator who is encouraging the city council to crack down on gameday vendors. “I'm not sure what the solution is. Maybe if they don't have a permit, the police can deal with that problem.”
Boothroy added, “I do not own that particular t-shirt.”
