Sorry, not a lot of description here.
It goes Reiff, Zusevics, James Ferentz, Vandenberg, Binns and Kirk Ferentz (x3).
Note: More videos have been added from SourceMedia Group’s James Steward, who was at the Spring Game as well. So if you hear a strange voice, don’t worry, Marc didn’t get Laryngitis halfway through the interviews. Even though it was probably cold enough for that.
Finally, we have some bonus interviews with a very dedicated family of Hawkeyes fans taken before the spring game got underway. Hawkeye alum Cindy Parker and her family have come to lots of games at Kinnick before, but this was their first ever Spring Game experience.
Her son, Ben Parker, mixes it up a little with some parking lot football. On a cold, windy day like Saturday, running around seemed like a really good idea. Coach Ferentz might want to take a look at Ben – we all know the Hawkeyes can always use another RB on the depth chart.
Last but not least, these three girls huddle for warmth in the back of the SUV, trying to stay out of the wind. They’re still excited for their first Hawkeyes football game, though!
This team has a real shot, man do they have a lot talent and competition going on. I’ve tried over the last few weeks to verbalize my feelings about graduation losses being a good thing, but I can’t really explain it just right. So I’m going to try again…….
Christian Ballard was a great Hawkeye and one of my favorites and he was a freakish 300-Lb man with great speed and feet, yet he never really dominated a game the way say a Roth or Babs or even a Luebeke did at times. And as good as he was for us you may find he is one of those guys that BLOW up in the NFL!
Last year Binns got a little lost in the shuffle and I think NOW he will regain his voice and leadership that will propel him to dominate.
I have been really excited to see Alvis play for some time and I was told last April by a high school football coach from I believe Iowa Falls, that Forgy was a spectacular athlete who only needed a chance.
Tarpinian (as his Pro-day proved) was also a freakish athlete that could just never stay healthy and on that note Lber injuries forced Hitchens, Kirksey, Dibona and Morris into game action that would have never happened otherwise. As a result we are waaayyyyy ahead on the experience curve already this year!
Hunter was another one of my favorite Hawkeyes, but for some reason either because of nagging undisclosed injuries he would go from being…”wow is he a good Lber” to “ho hum”…….The competition there is really going to drive these guys.
In the backfield, Greenwood, in my opinion is one of the most underrated Iowa players of all time. With that said I really love the competition and options we have back there…..sometimes after 3 years together (Sash/Greenwood) your play, although good, isn’t quite as explosive as it was. We have, what I believe, are 7 legitimate “All-Big 10” type guys back there. I’m basing that on general impressions of athleticism and Iowa history for DB replacements. That’s not counting true freshmen surprises. So I really think this D still has the ability to be one of our 3 or 4 best under KF and that is saying a ton!!
Offensively I doubt we have ever had as much top tier O-line depth and again that is saying a TON! We also appear to have a lot of options everywhere else as well.
It will all come down to Vandy, QB health, momentum and a few breaks…………..This is a 10 win team, whether with finish plus or minus that will depend on these “other” things not talent!
