Iowa offensive lineman Dan Heiar was involved in a single-vehicle accident over the weekend and remains hospitalized.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said Tuesday that Heiar, who earned a scholarship after two seasons at Iowa Western Community College, will be hospitalized for a while.

"It's significant and we expect him to hospitalized for a while," Ferentz said. "We hope it progresses forward in a good fashion."

Heiar, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound junior, is a native of Charlotte and attended Northeast Goose Lake High School as a prep.

The information orginally came from the UI. It's not known right now where the accident took place or where Heiar is hospitalized.

"I've heard from a few teammates what's going on," linebacker Tyler Nielsen said. "It's unfortunate. We hope he gets better. We have a team meeting coming up and we hope to get some updates on him and see if we can go visit him. We wish him the best and hopefully he's able to recover well."

The Monday release stated that Ferentz would release more details when appropriate.

“Right now just worried about him having a total recovery,” Ferentz said.
