Satterfield gets $625 fine, no prison or probation following plea deal

IOWA CITY - Former Hawkeye Abe Satterfield was sentenced in Johnson County Sixth Judicial District Wednesday, receiving a suspended prison sentence, a $625 fine and no probation.

Included in the sentencing was a five year no contact order with the victim and he was ordered to pay $326 for victim restitution.

Satterfield, who pleaded guilty to assault with intent to inflict serious injury in April, 2010, was not present for his sentencing and was represented by his lawyer, Alfredo Parrish. Sixth Judicial District Judge Marsha Bergan's reasoning for the light sentence was Satterfield being 22 years old and an absence of any prior criminal record.

Satterfield and former football teammate Cedric Everson, 21, of Atlanta, were accused of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman Oct. 14, 2007, in a University of Iowa dorm room. Prosecutors alleged Satterfield forced the woman to have sex and then allowed Everson to assault her while she was passed out.

Everson was found guilty Jan. 20 of assault, a simple misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail. He is scheduled to be sentenced April 22.

Satterfield was originally charged with second- and third-degree sex abuse, felonies that could have carried a combined 35 years in prison. He signed a plea deal allowing him to plead guilty to assault with intent to commit serious injury if he testified against Everson.
