23-year old Army Spc. Adam Eilers is in stable but serious condition at a hospital in Afghanistan.

A family member told KCRG-TV9 he was hit by an improvised explosive device, or IED.

The Garber native is a member of the Iowa National Guard.

In a blog post published by the Des Moines Register in August, Eilers admitted he was nervous about the send-off that would send he and fellow members of Company A, 1st Battalion, 133rd Infantry to Afghanistan. "He knew he probably wouldn’t sleep well, and he was scared about what Afghanistan would bring," the story said of Eilers. "But right now, he was home (in Garber), and he was happy."
