Iowa Hawkeye Football History. Iowa running back Ed Podolak (#14) carries the ball to the Wisconsin 22-yard line in the first quarter at Iowa (Kinnick) Stadium Saturday. The Hawkeyes defeated the Badgers, 41-0. Podolak rushed 14 times for 129 yards in the game. In 1968, head coach Ray Nagel switched the senior Podolak from quarterback to running back and inserted sophomore Larry Lawrence into the QB position. Iowa finished the 1968 season at 5-5 overall, and 4-3 in the Big Ten. Photo October 19, 1968. (Gazette archive)

From UI sports info:

The following update on Ed Podolak’s condition was provided by Laura Podolak Tuesday afternoon:

“My dad remains in stable condition in a Scottsdale area hospital. He continues to undergo minor surgeries to repair his injuries. He is alert and remains in good spirits, but is requesting privacy.

At this time, Dad is not accepting visitors or phone calls, and we are asking people not to send gifts or flowers, until further notice.

We want to thank everyone for their words of kindness and concern during this difficult time. The outpouring of support has been overwhelming.

If you’d like to leave my dad a message, we’ve set up an Ed Podolak Facebook page. It can be accessed by searching for Ed Podolak on facebook.com.”
