On Jan. 12, I watched a guy give a speech in Tucson, Ariz. I was inspired by his words but then I remembered all the e-mails I received in the last two years about what a terrible man he was.
I guess he is a man to not be respected. Certain elements of society have told me he is a Nazi, Marxist, communist, socialist, Muslim, racist and illegal alien (born in Kenya), and cannot be trusted.
In addition, I guess this guy has done some bad things. He’s had the audacity to:
l Get a stimulus bill passed that prevented another Great Depression.
l Get a health bill passed.
l Get some much-needed regulations for Wall Street.
l Get much needed-credit card reform.
l Reform college aid procedures.
l Repeal the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy.
l Keep the middle class tax cuts from 2003.
l Get START (nuclear arms reduction treaty) passed.
l Enable Anamosa to build a new middle school with stimulus money.
l Regain world’s respect for the United States.
I’ve concluded he isn’t such a bad man after all. He’s simply made some much needed changes. Woodrow Wilson was right when he said, “If you want to make enemies, just try to change something.”
