Let’s see, star senior receiver is living in a drug distribution house and now there’s indications that Jewel and ARob are no longer Hawkeyes. Whatever can be the connection? That sound you hear is shoes dropping…
Mike, are Iowa fans like the Cubs fans of college football?? I just don’t hear the expectations you do in other schools. Everyone is content even though the team underachieved , players are leaving, player is arrested, One major bowl in the last decade. Anywhere else and Ferentz wouldv’e been fired well anywhere like Nebraska Ohio State Penn State so on. So how come Iowa fanns don’t lose it when they’re team lose four in row and looks on pace to get crushed in it’s bowl? oh and yes Iowa looks like it’s dead against Mizzou, you have lost your top reciever and the team is a mess,
Joshua – the Hawkeyes have lost three, not four in a row, and no one is going to blame Ferentz just because it may ‘look’ like the team is going to get crushed in the Insight Bowl. He didn’t choose where or who Iowa would play. If they do get crushed you might have something.
Also, 2003 and 2010 Orange Bowl counts as two, not one ‘major bowl in the last decade’.
But to answer your question, even though I’m not Mike, there are plenty of Iowa fans who are losing it – just read these boards. However, a lot of us probably don’t have the expectations of Nebraksa, Ohio State, or Penn St. fans. We realize its difficult to win at Iowa, and realistically, if Iowa fires Ferentz, who better is come here? We’ve seen where that road goes with our basketball program, and with all due respect, Tom Davis was a much less successful coach than Ferentz is.
Upon further review, Penn St. wouldn’t have fired Ferentz either. By the magical ‘last decade’ critera, Iowa under Ferentz is 84-41, while Penn St. is 79-44, with, you guessed it, a 1-1 record in BCS bowls. (not to mention Iowa holding a 7-1 head to head advantage, which isn’t really relevant, but still fun to talk about)
Its difficult to win anywhere, but I would say moreso at Iowa than some others. Ohio and Pennsylvania have great homestate talent, much bigger populations than Iowa to choose from – that’s a big advantage in my mind.
OSU & PSU, along with Notre Dame and Nebraska, are ‘Brand Name’ programs that attract a lot of national attention, whereas in my opinion Iowa isn’t quite like that. That affects how potential recruits look at you. Now, granted ND hasn’t been very relevant recently, and is losing that luster, and Nebraska is just gaining it back.
But basically, my answer boils down to recruiting. I think at this point in time, its easier to recruit to those schools than to Iowa. Obviously there’s much more to winning than recruiting, but it seems a school is at an advantage when they get good recruits. That hasn’t proven true for Iowa though, which makes me think even more highly of the job Ferentz has done there.
I’m thinking 2010 = 2006, meaning 2011 = 2007!! Is Western Michigan on the schedule next year?!
A few weeks ago I was worrying about D’Andre J. not getting a good shot in 2011. Let’s just say DJ is probably number two on the RB depth chart heading onto spring ball. Marcus Coker being #1……
We’re talking about a player who’s blown out the ACL’s in BOTH of his knees and his missed nearly TWO whole seasons due to serious knee injuries.
Did it HAPPEN to cross anyone’s mind yet that doctors have told Jewel that perhaps its not the best idea for him to continue playing football?
Let’s be realistic here…lets say Jewel came back next year–he likely would be the 3rd string RB behind Coker and Robinson and used sparingly simply because he’s got two surgically repaired knees.
Yet, we’re seeing the bandwagon fans freak out as if this were the end of Iowa football.
Iowa’s got FOUR RB’s on the roster (DeAndre Johnson, Brad Rogers, Coker and Robinson) and likely will be recruiting 1-2 more.
If Jewel has indeed left the team, best wishes to him, but this is nothing to start trashing Ferentz or screaming from the hilltops about.
Did it cross your mind that Rogers will be starting at fullback next year and to date we have zero RB commits?
This is going to end badly in 2010. I’m not freaking out in the least for 2011 at RB. Do you always ignore patterns?? Or maybe you weren’t a fan in 2006 & 2007; just since 2009??? lol
You’re spreading rumors..completely and TOTALLY unsubstantiated rumors.
You have ZERO evidence that any player has failed a drug test. You have ZERO evidence that any other player is leaving the team.
Yet, you’re here making these pronouncements as if they were fact. Let’s get freaking real here. Don’t you think the Iowa athletic dept and the FB staff would be the FIRST ones to announce any departures/suspensions, etc?
You’re full of crap. Quit spreading it around, this isn’t a field needing be fertilized, son.
I just heard there is a football related press release happening this afternoon. Hlas, can you confirm? Hopefully we’ll have a few rumors laid to rest. For better or for worse.
I am looking forward to the 2011 Hawkeyes. I know that 26 seniors are departing, including DJK. We already know Wegher is transfering and like most seasons, we will see others exit as well. Often, it seems like RB is the most revolving position in the Iowa football program.
Enjoyed Jewel Hampton’s brief career… too bad he was hit by injury. I imagine he needs a fresh start or it was time to go separate ways, whichever the case may be.
did he graduate, use up his eligibility, or just another defection from the 4 million dollar man?
He didn’t graduate. After that, he didn’t say.
It appeared he was talking about Wegher.
In another post, he wrote “Farewell”. He claimed it was the title of a ‘song’
You are a cyclown, [ain't ya]?

Is this anything? I have no idea on Sunday night.
If it’s not, I think it’s comical a player would put something like that on social media to send everyone in a tizzy. If it is … then it is.

Were you at the FB banquet, Mike? Some interesting MIAs……
Were YOU at the banquet? Who was missing?

Ok..lets use some REAL common sense here..

Look for A-Rob to play for UNI next season…..

What “rumor” did I “start?” It’s commone knowledge JH is gone, I just told you why!
Just wait until the pipe opens up….you be wishing a was a “rumor monger!”
We have a tweet that says “Former Hawkeye”. That’s it. You think, just maybe, that we should wait on further developments?
Panther..

Get back to me when all the smoke clears, ok!

On Iowa!
Hope it is not a situation of where there is somke there is fire. But I think we all know what is coming.
As I said earlier, when all is said and done, 2006 will be calling and want it’s WI and MN debacles back!
