Retentionageddon - It's Official

State officials certified the results of the 2010 election today, so three Iowa Supreme Court justices, Marsha Ternus, David Baker and Michael Streit, got their official pink slips from Iowa voters.
Well, most Iowa voters, anyway. Official results show that roughly 148,000 people who cast ballots in the election skipped the Supreme Court retention questions. That's about 13 percent of the record 1,133,406 ballots cast.
The under-vote in Ternus' race was 147,860. For Baker it was 148,622 and 149,115 for Streit.
For some perspective, Cedar Rapids' population is roughly128,000. Now, apparently, we know the population of Apathy City. Hey, it was a long ballot. People got hand cramps, etc.
Still, the justices drew more ballots than the constitutional convention question, which had an under-vote of 165,961.
And more than 300,000 Iowans skipped voting on Iowa Court of Appeals judges who were up for retention. So I guess voter rage against the judicial branch didn't extend to Iowa's other appellate court.
