Let council hear your anger on Second Avenue

I am angry because a month ago the Cedar Rapids City Council said it would not act impulsively and would have an independent traffic engineer from Iowa State University look at the traffic plan in regard to closing Second Avenue SE for the new Physicians' Clinic of Iowa building. The Oct. 26 council vote says otherwise.
I am angry because:
-- Talking to the council seems to make no difference. A petition with more than 300 names was presented without the council taking the time to acknowledge it.
-- With hospitals and many medical organizations able to contribute positively without asking for help from the city, extreme measures are being taken for one. Unfair.
-- The council is being bullied by PCI and, in turn, is trying to bully residents.
I am most angry because people tell me they oppose the closing of Second Avenue but publicly support it. They are afraid for their jobs, afraid they won't be able to get medical care or afraid of the clout of those involved.
I am not opposed to the medical mall. But I encourage anyone else who does not want the traffic mess, loss of parking or lack of access that closing Second Avenue would cause to contact the council.
