Chimney fire offers cleaning reminder

Cedar Rapids firefighters were on scene of a chimney fire this afternoon on the city's southwest side.
The chimney fire, at 2008 Balsam Dr. SW, was taken care of once firefighters arrived. The Cedar Rapids fire department says this is a reminder to have your chimney cleaned each season. No injuries were reported.
Greg Buelow of the Cedar Rapids Fire Department said there can be a creosote buildup in chimneys from last year, that can light on fire very easily.
Fire officials recommend a professional chimney cleaning every year.
