Defensive tackle Karl Klug warms up during Saturday's open scrimmage. (Marc Morehouse)
Here is a longer Kirk Ferentz interview. I think the first three or so minutes are on absent running back Brandon Wegher.
Cornerback Shaun Prater, who missed Saturday’s scrimmage with a muscle pull, is also covered.
Tons of topics in this video.
This is “the” team. I just sense they are really ready. As I’ve said many times, this team has lots of talent and my concerns are focus and effort related. On that front they have done the work, and have the right attitude.
As others have said, they have more DB’s than ever.
They have some Lbers, with some impressive youth coming in.
They have backup D-linemen.
They have Rber s and WR’s
The O-line is athletic and coming.
I honestly don’t think I could pick out an Iowa team that I ever remember with this much overall depth and top line talent.
So let's just assume — for a sec — that Gettis is going to be money, as Kirk sort of alludes to. Plus, now we have a 5th-year senior at center. Hmm. Maybe that O-line won't be a question mark at all.
Nice to think about anyway …
Well, this may set the expecations bar even higher. I think this is the most positive I have ever heard Ferentz about one of his teams. Not that he's a constant pessimist, just that he usually seems to be pretty even-keel, positive balanced by something that needs work. And there's always something that needs work (as there was here), but KF seems really upbeat about this team. That could be scary for the rest of the league.
Thanks for taking the time to write that, I found it very interesting. If you get a chance you should check my site as well. I hope you have a great day!
