An Iowa City man faces two federal child pornography charges after police found thousands of images on a computer seized as part of a drug investigation.

Alexander Evans, 27, remains in federal custody. A detention hearing  is scheduled for Wednesday on two counts of possession and distribution of child pornography at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa, federal court records show.

Police seized Evans’ computer as part of a drug investigation in March 2009 after a juvenile female told police Evans assaulted her and offered her marijuana, a federal complaint states. While officers were initially looking for records of drug transactions, they found child pornography and initiated a second investigation.

Evans told investigators he’d been searching for child porn for “a long time.”

Evans received a deferred judgment on the state drug charge last month filed after the search of his residence, court records show. He was placed on probation for three years and fined $750.
