Apparently the worst thing that could have happened to B.J. Hermsen was nearly no-hitting the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

The Beloit Snappers pitcher and West Delaware grad lost for the third straight start Tuesday night, giving up 10 hits and seven runs in 4 2/3 innings against Kane County. The Cougars beat Beloit, 11-2.

Hermsen one-hit the Kernels in Cedar Rapids on June 17. Since then, the big right-hander has allowed 16 earned runs in 18 1/3 innings in losses to Clinton, Quad Cities and Kane County.

Hermsen’s record is 4-4 and his earned run average 4.71 in 10 starts for Beloit.
