Iowa offensive coordinator Ken O’Keefe said Tuesday that RB Brandon Wegher is “dinged” and probably won’t play in Saturday’s spring scrimmage.
Here’s the opening statement on the general performance of the offense so far in spring practice. Also, the first question, which went right to the O-line, the biggest questionmark on the offense.
Here, O’Keefe talks OL Bryan Bulaga, the running back position and tight end.
The Ricky Stanzi-interceptions question comes up here. Stanzi threw 15 picks last season, including four pick sixes. It’s job 1 for the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach and the quarterback this spring.
Here’s some more Ricky Stanzi stuff, especially noting the growth and personalities of quarterbacks. Stanzi very much has a voice in this offense, and O’Keefe wants to hear from his QBs.
Here O’Keefe talks wide receiver, including the fact that Iowa is working sophomore Keenan Davis at both slot and split this spring. They want to get him on the field.
Here, O’Keefe talks wide receiver Marvin McNutt, whose big-play ability even shocked Iowa coaches last fall. McNutt averaged 19.8 yards a catch and scored eight TDs.
Some good stuff here on running backs. Each has a little bit of a different skill set, but Iowa’s offense probably won’t adjust. O’Keefe talks here how that used to be the case in blocking situations. You see less and less of the one-back set just being the fullback and basically telegraphing to the defense that it’s a pass.
I’m not sure what this one is.
