After faith, family and golf, Zach Johnson’s No. 1 passion is probably the Iowa Hawkeyes. He may like the Hawkeyes more than golf, actually.

How great for him that one of his best friends on the PGA Tour, British Open champion Stewart Cink, is a Georgia Tech grad.

And how great for him that another buddy on Tour, Matt Kuchar, also went to Tech.

Johnson bet Kuchar on the Georgia Tech-Iowa Orange Bowl. The loser had to use a head cover of the winner’s school for the entire week at the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Maui, as this Maui News story details.

In addition, Johnson had a bet with Cink, with the loser to wear a hat of the winning team for the tourney.

However, as Johnson told The Golf Channel Friday, he whiffed. He didn’t have the head cover or hat with him to give to Kuchar and Cink after Iowa’s 24-14 win in the game.

But all are entered in next week’s Sony Open in Honolulu, and Johnson insisted on television that the two players will honor their bets. Johnson is having the head cover and hat sent to him in time for that tourney, of which Cedar Rapids native/Drake graduate Johnson is the defending champion.

Johnson had a 4-under-par 69 Friday and is tied for 18th at the Mercedes, which is exclusive to winners in last year’s PGA Tour events.

  5. Like Johnson (Iowa State hater) has anything to do with the U of Iowa's FB sucess. He was shunned by Iowa in the recruiting process, now returns as this lapdog fan taking potshots @ ISU.
