Cornerback Jordan Bernstine suffered an ankle injury in morning practice Wednesday and was taken to the hospital.

It is a break, but the severity and how long the junior from Des Moines will be out is not known.

Bernstine was No. 1 left cornerback heading into camp. He was battling sophomores Shaun Prater and Willie Lowe for the spot.

Bernstine hasn't taken a redshirt. That could be an option depending on the rehabiliation time.

The Hawkeyes will hold an open scrimmage Saturday at Kinnick Stadium. It's Kids Day, when players sign autographs after the practice. Gates open at 11 a.m.
