The Pacific-10 Conference had its Media Day this week, and the media projected Arizona to finish in eighth-place.

That's the same Arizona program that won eight games including a bowl last year. Mike Stoops' Wildcats play at Iowa on Sept. 19.

Stoops said he wasn't surprised his team was picked eighth, but feels "this is our best overall team that we've had from 1 to 85."

"I think our lack of respect in this conference is built around maybe our ability to replace a very quality player in (quarterback) Willie Tuitama, who's been in our program for four seasons."

Stoops hasn't settled on a starting quarterback for the season ahead.

"I believe that we will be able to replace Willie with a couple of very able players," he said.

This nuggest from the Los Angeles Times:

When Arizona safety Cam Nelson was asked about the media picking his team to finish eighth in the conference this season, he attempted to take the high road.

"That doesn't bother me at all," the senior said.

His coach, Mike Stoops, interrupted: "That means it does bother him."
