Solon Beef Days -- Hay toss
Marc Morehouse
Jul. 30, 2009 11:15 am
Here are some pictures from Justin Scott, of Waterloo, from Solon Beef Days' hay bale toss championships.
In the past, several current Hawkeyes participated in this event. Did QB Drew Tate strain his oblique during this in 2006? I know it was denied, but the Fox Mulder in me wonders.
Anyway, the stars of this year event were former Hawkeye D-tackle Matt Kroul, representing Mount Vernon, and former Hawkeye linebacker Mike Humpal, representing New Hampton. Future Hawkeye linebacker James Morris also participated.
I didn't get the height, but Kroul defended his crown, with Humpal giving him a push.
CORRECTION -- Justin e-mailed to tell me that a gentleman named "Moose" finished third. One of the immovable tenets of my life is never have a dude named "Moose" mad at me.
Here are the pictures (a big thanks to Justin, much appreciated):

Future Hawkeyes linebacker James Morris, an all-stater for Solon, waits for his turn in the Solon Beef Days hay bale toss. I want to say Morris finished third behind Kroul and Humpal, but I'm not 100 percent. (Justin Scott)
